Biography:
After decades writing Star Trek stories, Howard Weinstein turns to historical fiction with Galloway's Gamble, a Western Fictioneers Peacemaker Award-winning novel set in the Old West (available in hardcover and paperback from Amazon.com).

Praise from True West magazine: "Anyone who loves Charles Portis's style of writing in True Grit, or readers ready [for] a great yarn... look no farther than Galloway's Gamble." Fellow Star Trek author Dayton Ward calls it "a rich, layered story where the characters leap off the page... Extensive research infuses his tale with authenticity." Inspired by high-spirited classics like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and The Sting, Galloway's Gamble is a coming-of-age romp about bickering brothers Jamey and Jake Galloway, who grow up to be poker players in frontier Texas.

The sequel will feature a strong Maryland connection. Following a shady horse race shrouded in 'Frisco fog, Jamey, Jake and colorful friends embark on a perilous transcontinental trek, trying to reach Baltimore in time for match-race revenge against ruthless horseman Cortland Van Brunt and his unbeatable stallion at the splendid new Pimlico Race Course in 1873.

Howie's 45 years of writing credits include Star Trek: Mere Anarchy: The Blood-Dimmed Tide and six other Star Trek novels; "The Pirates of Orion" animated Star Trek episode; story-development assistance on the classic Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home; and Puppy Kisses Are Good for the Soul, a charming account of life with legendary Welsh Corgi Mail Order Annie.
