Science Fiction Convention
ConClave rebranded as The Continuum in 2016 for the 2017 convention and on!
In January of 1974, Dr. Marshall Tymn started a science fiction club on the campus of Eastern Michigan University. The group originally chose the name Waldo and Magic, Inc. after the Robert A. Heinlein book. As members had been attending conventions, the club decided to put one together in 1976.
Over the years, the convention has grown thanks to staff and attendees. After the 2016 convention, the convention rebranded to The Continuum. While remaining true to its literary roots, The Continuum is a celebration of science-fiction, fantasy, hard science, music, gaming, animation, film and cosplay.
The Continuum is not your typical convention! We stand out with our well-supplied Convention Hospitality Suite, a Saturday Night Costume Ball, a merchandise area with a wide variety of offerings, several tracks of programming of interest to members and a loyal following of staff and panel participants. Our programming includes literature/sci-fi/fantasy, science/space, music and gaming. There is always something of interest to everyone going on! We also have a video room that screens rare anime and fan-created offerings not seen elsewhere. For NaNoWriMo participants, we offer prep workshops and panels focused on writing.
At The Continuum, you can have the type of day where you attend a tea tasting and history lesson before learning to swordfight, take a breather in a panel where your favorite author discusses world building, then end the day by painting miniatures and listening to someone sing about Star Wars.
